Why Kamala Doesn’t Matter
W. David Montgomery
It is hard to view this election without a degree of suspicion. How can we explain a major political party going from a nominee in 2020 whose aging brain kept him in the basement to a nominee in 2024 who shows no sign of ever having had one? Aside from Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan — allegedly against the advice of his military advisors — the obvious explanation is that the mental deficiencies and the willingness of these candidates to be led leaves control of the nation in the hands of a managerial class. The Afghanistan debacle is the exception that proves the rule, because not a single one of Biden’s national security advisors resigned in light of a decision that ranks with the worst by any President. They stayed in control and seemingly made sure old Joe did not embarrass them again. They continued their agenda of weakening the US military through DEI initiatives, pandering to Iran, giving Ukraine too little aid to win and making climate change more important than nuclear war.
On Friday night, Israel ignored both the Biden – Harris bluster about backing off and the possibly intentional release of intelligence on its preparations for a retaliatory attack. No wonder, with Kamala Harris standing on the stage with Beyonce and Biden heading to the beach when both should be heading for the Situation Room. Clearly none of the appointees and bureaucrats in Washington think either one is needed or has something to contribute during a potential national security crisis. Jake Sullivan, Anthony Blinken and the affirmative action promotions in the Pentagon happily kept on running national security affairs on their own.
The same appears to be true about the rest of the government departments. HHS needs no presidential guidance to maintain its campaign to confuse children about their sex and Attorney General Merrick Garland needs no direction from above to continue his lawfare campaign. EPA is on autopilot issuing rules to end consumer choice in the futile pursuit of a zero carbon world. And so on.
I am no conspiracy theorist, but the disconnect of the Democrat’s current president and presidential nominee from any of the operations of government is blatant. The simplest, and therefore the most likely explanation is that the back-room dealers wanted it that way. Having a mouthpiece who will read whatever is put on their teleprompter keeps the managerial class free of any possible democratic control.
They — the cabal of Nancy Pelosi, tech billionaires, cabinet appointees and others who so clearly managed the nominations of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris — did take a risk. Their candidates could be expected to leave them alone to govern, but Joe and Kamala also had major defects as campaigners. The choice of the managers was to take the risk, or more likely their hubris is so great that they believe that unquestioning support from the legacy media and their ability to manipulate election outcomes will be enough to elect their chosen warm body. That did work in 2020, but only because of Trump’s outrageous behavior throughout his campaign.
I do not know whether it is reassuring or frightening that one implication of my theory is that it does not matter what Kamala says or promises, or how vacuous her mental processes. She is not the danger. She will not be allowed to make decisions on any but trivial and symbolic matters. The country will continue on its steady course toward hell under the direction of current managers and their internally chosen successors. The managers’ fear, and our hope, is that the American people will reject the course they are steering, and elect the ultimate disruptor, Donald Trump. Ten more days to vote, and probably weeks more after that to find out if our votes will ever matter again.
